Define Proprioception
Also known as “kinesthetic”, Proprioception is the ability to perceive the position of our body in space, the spatial orientation and the state of contraction of the muscles even with closed eyes. When we are tense and angry, we tend to contract the muscles. Recognizing this pattern is essential to return to a state of relaxation and restore muscle coordination and thus improve the performance of some voluntary movements. The center of muscle coordination is the cerebellum that processes neural input directed to the muscles from the spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Muscle coordination is the ability to perform a more effective movement.
